Kalvkruvatn – 5,000 hectares of exclusive multi-year grouse hunting in Norway

The Kalvkru cabin is located deep inside the Åbjøravassdraget river system, surrounded by untouched nature, with no permanent settlement and no other inhabited cabins in the hunting area. The area is normally rented out for only two weeks per year.

This auction applies to a multi-year lease of the entire hunting area, including the cabin, for 17–24 September each year over three years.

The hunting terrain

The area stretches from approx. 250 to 1,000 metres above sea level and offers varied terrain with mountain forest, willow scrub, marshland and high mountain areas.

Willow grouse

Kalvkruvatn is especially known for its willow grouse hunting. The core willow grouse terrain covers around 2,000 hectares and is considered one of the most reliable areas on the estate. Hunters normally experience good populations, and the terrain is well suited for hunting with 2–3 dogs.

Parts of the terrain are hilly and steep, but the reward is large areas with little disturbance and strong potential for productive hunting days.

Ptarmigan

The area also has good populations of ptarmigan. The terrain varies from easier walking sections to more rugged areas, and some ascent should be expected to reach the best rock ptarmigan locations.

Capercaillie and black grouse

In addition, around 500 hectares of mixed terrain for capercaillie and black grouse are included. Forest grouse hunting should be considered an addition to the main grouse hunting. The quality is moderate, and populations naturally vary from year to year.

Fishing

Kalvkruvatnet and the surrounding areas are known for excellent inland fishing for high-quality brown trout. Fishing is available both in lakes and rivers, with many attractive fishing spots.

Trout of more than 4 kg have been caught in Kalvkruvatnet, and trout of more than 2.5 kg have been caught in Mellomvatnet. During the grouse hunt, tenants may use up to three nets for catching food during the stay.

The cabin

The Kalvkru cabin is well equipped and suitable for 4–6 people. It is idyllically located by Kalvkruvatnet and serves as a comfortable base for both hunting and fishing.

Access

The journey to the cabin is part of the experience. From the parking area, you follow a marked trail and boat stages through beautiful, untouched nature. Normal travel time from the car to the cabin is 2–3 hours. Transport of equipment can be arranged on request.
