Salmon Fishing at Saksa GårdFishing
Season:20. juni 2026 - 31. aug. 2026
UtmarksCompagniet

Description

Exclusive access to 7.5 km of salmon-bearing waters and accommodation in historical surroundings at Saksa Gård. A stay here is suitable for families, groups of friends, and colleagues who want to experience peace and quiet by the river, on the water, in the forest, or in the mountains.

Sakselva is part of the Sal water system and is a small salmon-bearing river. Saksa Gård is located by Sakstjønna, where you have access to two motorboats and a lean-to shelter. Sakstjønna is approximately 1 square kilometer in size and flows further down into Salsvann via the Eidaelva river. The salmon depends on a certain level of water flow to make it up into Sakselva, so rainfall is a prerequisite for good river fishing. The average weight of salmon in Sakselva is approximately 2 kg. The largest fish ever caught in Sakselva weighed over 18 kg!

In addition to the salmon-bearing stretches, there are also several inland lakes in the area, including Saksvatna at the top of Sakselva, and Skifteshaugtjønna where there is a pleasant lean-to shelter. At Storengan, there are also two canoes available for you to borrow.

About the terrain

UtmarksCompagniet is a continuation of the extensive experience in facilitating hunting, fishing, and nature experiences from the former Bangdalsbruget – Firma Albert Collett. The first foreign hunters and anglers were hosted as early as the 1880s.

UtmarksCompagniet offers various products within hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation – and does everything to ensure that you, in particular, will have a wonderful holiday memory to take home to your everyday life.

Salen has for more than 100 years been known for exciting moose hunting in Trøndelag. Some of the very largest hunting trophies from moose hunting in Norway originate from this exact area.

On parts of the land, there is also a good population of roe deer that can offer exciting stalking or slow-tracking hounds. For interested hunters, different levels of facilitation are offered – everything from self-service to full facilitation including guiding as well as high-standard dining and accommodation.

We also offer small game hunting in our areas. Hunting for grouse, forest birds, hare, and roe deer. This is distributed across 27 different hunting grounds in Salen, located in Trøndelag.

Saksen Gård

Saksen Gård – a historic wilderness farm

Saksen Gård was a permanent settlement until the 1960s. It was mentioned in the tax census as early as 1559 and has throughout history been a hub for forestry in Salen.

In its time, three separate farms were operated here. The primary industry was forestry, while farming was conducted as a secondary livelihood where the horse was central both on the farm and in the forest. At that time, there was no road into Salen. The journey there went across Salvatnet by boat to Eiden Gård, and further by boat across Saksvatnet before arriving at the farm. During winter, one had to strap on skis for the long trek to Botnan.

Today, you drive along Hendevegen to the junction at Hende Gård, and continue up through Saksdalen, across Stormyra, and down Storbakkan before reaching the farm.

Saksen Gård is the place for those particularly interested in getting close to nature with excellent hiking opportunities. For recreational anglers, it is an eldorado with opportunities to fish in several lakes. If you take the trip up to Saksvatna, a 2-3 hour hike, it is ideal for dry-fly fishing. Furthermore, the river Sakselva offers rod fishing for salmon when water levels are favorable. Trying fly fishing here is highly recommended and can be very exciting at times. In Sakstjønna, there are opportunities for fishing from a boat—there are two boats available for this purpose.
